Enlarged Pores

Enlarged pores are a common skin concern and are exacerbated by a variety of triggers.

Commonly, pores enlarge when they become congested by makeup, oily skin or pollution from the environment. As the pores become blocked they struggle to excrete sebum and dead cells are allowed to accumulate making them appear larger. This environment becomes conducive to bacterial growth and can give rise to problems such as acne and blackheads.

Excessively dry skin can also contribute to enlarged pores as the sebaceous glands (oil producing glands) over compensate by excreting increased amounts of sebum which block the pores, making them look bigger.

Regardless of what is causing the enlarged pores, they can be exacerbated by ageing. Reduced skin elasticity and collagen lead to skin laxity around the pores making them appear larger as the skin around them sags.

Although following a daily cleansing routine using high quality products can help prevent clogged and enlarged pores it doesn’t always help combat the problem after its onset. Instead we can offer the following solutions:

CO2 fractional laser

CO2 fractional laser irradiates the epidermis causing thermal damage. The skin then responds by forming newly regenerated skin with increased elasticity and strength, reducing the appearance of large pores due to sagging skin.

Microneedling RF (Radio Frequency)

The powerful microneedling RF treatment induces a micro wound healing process that stimulates new cell regeneration and collagen production. Open, large pores will become noticeably smaller. Fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin and stretch marks can also be targeted during the process.
